Exercising Safely in the Summer Heat.
It’s important to stay active all year long. In the warm summer months, this can be a challenge. Keep moving and exercising safely this summer with these simple tips.
Watch the temperature, consider exercising in the morning or evening when temperatures are cooler.
Know your fitness level. Take frequent breaks and take it easy on the hottest and most humid days.
Drink plenty of fluids before and after exercise and consider replacing electrolytes (Pedialyte or Nuun).
Dress appropriately: wear light, breathable, moisture-wicking clothing.
Understand your medical risks and follow advice from your healthcare provider about exercising on hot days.
Avoiding the heat might keep you indoors, but be sure to stay active and social. Join Poplar’s online Fitness Club for supervised group exercise for people living with chronic lung conditions.
