Happy Respiratory Therapy Week!

The last week of October is the time of year when Respiratory Therapists (RT) across the country celebrate our profession. It is a time to be proud of the work we do every day to keep people breathing easy. This is also a time of year when we raise awareness about our profession, the skills we have and the care we provide.

The Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapy was founded almost 60 years ago, which means Respiratory Therapy is still a fairly new profession. During that time, we have become valued members of the healthcare team. RTs have a unique set of skills with a focus on cardiopulmonary care. We work in a variety of healthcare settings including hospitals, diagnostic and sleep labs, community health centres, and people’s homes. Respiratory Therapists educate, research, provide preventative care, chronic disease management, rehabilitation, diagnostics, anesthesia assistance, and emergency care. Our profession is a challenging one that requires ongoing education and experience. Respiratory Therapy is an in-demand profession that offers a rewarding career with career path options that continue to expand.

We would like to give a big shout out to all of the amazing Respiratory Therapists across Canada that work hard each day to deliver incredible cardiorespiratory care for their patients. You are AMAZING and we can’t thank you enough.
