Community Spotlight, Featuring Jack Sinton
Jack is a shining example of what it means to live a healthy and active lifestyle. Jack is one of those people who is always smiling and has something nice to say to everyone. He checks in with others with a genuine desire to find out how you’re doing. He is a realist but carries a positive attitude towards life. He is a good listener and remembers to follow up if anyone has a problem or is going through tough times. Jack maintains a healthy social life by attending church regularly and spending time with his wife, Elaine, and his extended family.
Jack celebrated his 89th birthday recently!! I think you would agree that this is an amazing feat in itself. But it’s not just ageing that is impressive, it’s ageing well. Jack has been diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs (pulmonary embolisms). These clots can make it difficult to breathe. Despite that, Jack makes time for regular activity and exercise. When we asked Jack about his exercise routine, he had this to share:
"I am an 89 year old man with respiratory issues from blood clots in my lungs. I walk approximately one mile every day with several rests during my walk. I enjoy my sessions with Poplar Community, the exercise, social experiences and the encouragement from the hosts."
We wanted to feature Jack in our Community Spotlight this month because of his ongoing motivation to follow a fitness routine and to stick with it over time. Setting a fitness goal is important and taking steps to achieve that goal is even more important. Let’s hope we can all take a page out of Jack’s book of life, and work towards a healthy (and happy) life.
